  • What is the SIPS Assessment

Psychotic disorders typically emerge in adolescence and early adulthood. Early detection and intervention is key to prevention and improved outcome. Its success depends on a widespread awareness of the early signs and symptoms of psychosis among the community.

The Structured Interview of Psychosis-risk Syndromes (SIPS) is a semi- structured interview for diagnosing a clinical high risk (CHR) syndrome for psychosis and cases of first episode psychosis.

The SIPS is a validated and most used diagnostic instrument of CHR throughout the world. It is valid for persons 12- 45 years of age.

Early detection and intervention is key to prevention and improved outcome for young people.

The current version of the SIPS (Version 5.6.1, January 5, 2017) may be obtained by contacting Barbara C. Walsh, Ph.D., Clinical Director at 203-974-7052 or barbara.walsh@yale.edu

  • Who Can Administer the SIPS Assessment?

Professionals who work with young people with mental health concerns who have a familiarity with psychological assessment or symptoms of psychosis, who develop hands-on skills through specialized training,, can administer and interpret the SIPS assessment.

  • SIPS Certification Training

The goals of this training are for participants to become familiar with the general signs and symptoms of CHR patients, to become familiar with the SIPS diagnostic and symptom severity measure, to learn how to utilize the SIPS to diagnose psychosis-risk states and psychosis, and to be able to rate reliably a SIPS interview.

Participants will become certified users of the SIPS upon successful completion of the training requirements in the workshop, including being able to accurately rate videos.

Please contact us to arrange a training in your area or to locate a training near you. You can also check our directory of Certified Trainers in your area.
