After-hours crisis intervention is accessed by calling the CMHC Switchboard at 203 974-7300 on weekdays after 5pm, weekends and state holidays, and asking for the South Central Crisis Service.

The Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an urban mental health center funded by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and managed in collaboration with the Yale Department of Psychiatry. With locations in New Haven and West Haven, it provides inpatient and outpatient recovery-oriented services to individuals who, with some exceptions, are 18 years of age or older, are uninsured and have severe mental health or substance use conditions. VA Connecticut Healthcare System

The Veterans Administration Connecticut Healthcare System (VACTHS) provides primary care and specialty services, including mental health services, to veterans in Connecticut. The mental health services are affiliated with the Yale Department of Psychiatry. These include inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment. Services are located in hospital and outpatient sites in West Haven and Newington, as well as community-based outpatient clinics throughout the state. Read More

Yale New Haven Hospital

Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital (YNHPH) offers inpatient, outpatient and emergency psychiatric and behavioral health services as part of Yale New Haven Hospital. It serves individuals of all ages who have a mental health illness, including individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance disorders. Yale Behavioral Health Services at Hamden

This outpatient clinic is funded by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and the Town of Hamden. It offers psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and peer support to persons with severe mental health and substance use conditions. Patients typically have government insurance (Medicare, Medicaid) or are uninsured. For more information, please click here.

Yale Health (for Yale Students)

Yale Health is a not-for-profit, physician-led health plan that operates a medical center on the Yale campus. The Mental Health & Counseling department provides free, confidential mental health treatment to members of the Yale student community. Services include individual therapy, group therapy, and medication consultations and management. For more information, please click here.

Yale Health members who are not students should call Magellan Health Service’s telephone center to find the most appropriate treatment provider within its behavioral health network. The telephone center is staffed around-the-clock. After an appointment is scheduled with a provider call Magellan Health Services again for an authorization.

The Steward House
