Biography
Dr. Grunschel received an Sc.B. and an Sc.M. in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University, with a masters thesis on murine bone biomechanics, prior to completing her M.D. at Jefferson Medical College. After completing medical school, Dr. Grunschel completed her Psychiatry residency at Yale, serving as Chief Resident of Education for the residency and Chief Resident of Inpatient Psychiatry at VA-Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, CT. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Grunschel continued at Yale, completing an Addiction Psychiatry fellowship. She is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and in Addiction Psychiatry. Over the years, Dr. Grunschel has served in several different roles within the Yale community, having had staff/faculty positions at Connecticut Mental Health Center, Yale Health/Student Mental Health & Counseling, and VA-Connecticut Healthcare System. Additionally, she has significant experience in clinical education, having taught medical, physician associate, and nursing students as well as residents and fellows in several specialty disciplines. She has served on several committees including having co-chaired the Pain Curriculum Committee at Yale School of Medicine and had been a Section Leader for the Interprofessional Longitudinal Clinical Experience (ILCE) for medical, physician associate, and nursing students. She is currently in private practice in New Haven. Areas of professional interest/expertise include psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, addiction work including non-substance disorders (sexual addiction, technology addiction), psychological and interdisciplinary approaches to chronic pain disorders, LGBTQ topics, work with young adults and transitional age youth, and providing clinical care for health professionals and health professional trainees.
