Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry, has been elected President-Elect of the Board of Directors of the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco (SRNT).
Benjamin Toll, PhD, Associate Professor Adjunct, was elected At-Large Member Delegate to the board.
SRNT is the only professional association dedicated exclusively to the support of researchers, academics, treatment professionals, government employees, and others who work across disciplines in the field of nicotine and tobacco research, according to its website. It has members in more than 40 countries.
In the United States, SRNT advances the field of nicotine and tobacco research by working with groups including the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Control and Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Krishnan-Sarin is co-leader of the Yale Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, which researches the influence of flavors on preference for and addiction to tobacco products. The center trains scientists and provides pilot funding to stimulate research related to tobacco regulatory science.
Toll heads the Smoking Cessation Service at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Health. He has researched the harmful effects of tobacco and e-cigarette use.
The current SRNT president is Marina Picciotto, PhD, Charles B.G. Murphy Professor of Psychiatry and Professor in the Child Study Center, and Deputy Chair for Basic Science Research in the Yale Department of Psychiatry,
