November 04, 2016

Froma Walsh, PhD, co-director and co-founder of the Chicago Center for Family Health, and professor emerita at the University of Chicago, spoke about family resilience November 4 in a Grand Rounds lecture in memory of W. Leonard Hill, Jr.

Hill died on February 18, 2015, after a more than 40-year career in social work and psychiatry as a clinician, administrator, teacher, and mentor at Yale University, Smith College School for Social Work, and Yale New Haven Hospital. An assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Yale beginning in 1977, he received the "Outstanding Teaching Award" from the Yale Department of Psychiatry (Psychology Section) in 2010-11.

His widow, Susan Hill, and his daughter, Amy Hill, attended Walsh's Grand Rounds lecture, which was given to a standing room only crowd in the auditorium at the Connecticut Mental Health Center.

Hill championed family health, and Walsh spoke about the importance of families to be able to recover from life's serious challenges. She has written and presented extensively on the subject, and is considered the foremost authority on family resilience.
