October 20, 2016

H. Steven Moffic, MD, a former Yale Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds speaker who attended Yale School of Medicine from 1967-1971, recently received the Administrative Psychiatry Award from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the American Association of Psychiatrist Administrators (AAPA).

The award was presented to Moffic on October 6 at the Fall APA meeting at the Institute of Psychiatric Services in Washington, D.C.

The intermittently given award is the highest leadership and administrative honor that the APA presents. In conjunction with his receipt of the award, Moffic gave the lecture, "Ethical Love in the Leadership and Administration of Psychiatry and Society.”

Previously, Moffic received the one-time Hero of Public Psychiatry from the APA's Assembly.

Moffic retired from clinical work and his tenured professorship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2010. He continues to write, present, and serve on boards. He was an editorial board member of and regular contributor to Psychiatric Times, and has written the book, “The Ethical Way: Challenges and Solutions for Managed Behavioral Healthcare.” He has also edited columns for three psychiatric newsletters.

At Yale, Moffic did his psychiatry rotation at the Connecticut Mental Health Center. He also gave Grand Rounds for the department on the subject of Managed Behavioral Healthcare.
