Department Seeks Applications for 2022 Detre Awards

January 10, 2022

The Yale Department of Psychiatry is accepting applications for the 2022 Thomas P. Detre Award for Translational Neuroscience Research in Psychiatry.

This award was established in honor of Dr. Thomas Detre, an internationally renowned academic psychiatrist, former Yale Psychiatry faculty member, and for decades the chair of psychiatry, vice chancellor of health sciences, and dean at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

The Detre Awards will support translational research by trainees in Yale Department of Psychiatry. Psychiatry residents in post-graduate years 1-3 are eligible to apply. Previous Detre Award winners are not eligible. We anticipate funding three awards of $30,000. These funds can be flexibly used to support research and related educational activities for as long as an awardee remains at Yale as a resident, fellow, or other non-ladder track position.

Award recipients may be asked to present their research to Dr. John Krystal, chair of psychiatry, and to the donors whose generosity supports this award.

Submission Deadline: Monday, March 28, 5:00 PM

Submission Materials:

1. Research proposal – up to 2 pages including figures; reference may be on an additional page. NIH formatting guidelines apply – ≥0.5 inch margins, 11 point font for main text.

2. Candidate's CV or NIH Biosketch

3. Letter of support from primary research mentor

Submissions will be reviewed by a committee chaired by Christopher Pittenger, MD, Ph.D, Director of the Neuroscience Research Training Program. The recommendations of this committee will be submitted to Dr. Krystal, who will make the final determination of award recipients.

Please submit materials as a single PDF to jessica.costeines@yale.edu. For questions about eligibility and scope, contact Dr. Pittenger at christopher.pittenger@yale.edu.

Honorees will be notified no later than May 2, 2022.
