Chyrell D Bellamy, PhD, MSW, professor of psychiatry, is one of five people named to the Online Museum of African American Addictions, Treatment and Recovery Hall of Fame.
The museum was created by social worker and addictions counselor Mark Sanders, LCSW, CADC, to serve as a central location for information about addictions, treatment, and recovery among African Americans. The site includes historical data, scholarly articles, educational videos, music, and DVDs and has content relevant to policy makers, treatment providers and payers, and patients and caregivers.
Bellamy was chosen along with Corrie Vilsaint, PhD; Fred Dyer, PhD, LADC; Rep. La Shawn Ford of Illinois; and Dr. Felecia Pullen.

Bellamy is director of the Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health, director of Peer Support Services and Research and director of the Yale Lived Experience Transformational Leadership Academy. She conducts community based participatory research and co-design with communities of color and with communities of people living with psychiatric Illness, substance use disorders, HIV, homelessness, and incarceration histories.
Her research focus is on healthcare disparities, sociocultural pathways of recovery and the development of culturally responsive interventions.
Bellamy also serves as a senior policy advisor to the Office of the Commissioner for Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (CT DMHAS).
