Women: Coronavirus Vaccines Won’t Make You Infertile
The Covid-19 pandemic has taken a disproportionate toll on women’s careers, finances and home lives. Although the vaccines may represent a solution, as scientists studying coronavirus infection and immune responses in women, we are now hearing from young women who say they might skip the shots out of fear for their fertility or nursing child. We are concerned about how inaccurate, extreme and widespread these theories have become, because getting vaccinated is the best way for women to protect themselves and their families.Source: The New York Times

Four Yale School of Medicine Students Spend Week at Oxford Immersed in Medical Humanities
Four Yale School of Medicine (YSM) MD students recently had the opportunity to study medical humanities at Oxford University. Yale Refugee Health Program Provides Medical Home for Refugees
Yale School of Medicine (YSM) students and faculty play a key role ensuring the approximately 250 refugees who arrive annually to Greater New Haven receive high quality health care and guidance as they transition to a new health care system. The Yale Refugee Health Program (YRHP), which seeks to provide a medical home for refugees, coordinates these efforts.
Medical Library Unveils Newly Renovated Facilities
The Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library has unveiled its newly renovated library facilities. The renovation features a series of rooms and spaces meant to foster learning and innovation including a 125-seat classroom, eight 16-seat classrooms, four meeting rooms, 24 workstations, and lounge seating.

Innovative Interprofessional Education for all Yale Medical, Physician Associate, and Nursing Students
For the past three years, every first-year MD, Physician Associate (PA), and Graduate Entry Pre-specialty in Nursing (GEPN) student has participated in the Interprofessional Longitudinal Clinical Experience (ILCE) course. ILCE occurs each year over 16 weeks from September through April.

Gender- and sexual-minority students in the health care professions from across the United States and other countries gathered at Yale School of Medicine March 30 and 31 for the first annual Q-Med conference, a meeting organized to address the role of leadership in the LGBTQI+ health care community.
Janet Hafler Receives Distinguished Educator Award
Janet Hafler, EdD, director of the Yale School of Medicine Teaching and Learning Center and associate dean for educational scholarship, received the Northeast Group on Educational Affairs (NEGEA) Distinguished Educator Award on April 4, 2019. The award was conferred during the NEGEA Annual Conference, held at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The NEGEA is one of four regional groups of the AAMC's Group on Educational Affairs.

Interprofessional Palliative Care Module: A Team Approach to Teaching, Learning, and Practicing
A patient who is a Jehovah’s Witness tells a nurse that he does not want a blood transfusion because of his religion. The husband of a patient requests that a physician assistant (PA) not speak directly to his wife about her impending death, and also asks the PA for help fulfilling traditional Sunni Muslim time-of-death customs. A terminally-ill patient asks a doctor “why is God doing this to me?”

Yale School of Medicine introduced a new curriculum three years ago in order to better prepare students for the 21st century without sacrificing its special identity. Leaders discussed how that process was going in a panel on Saturday, June 2nd.
YSM Celebrates 100 Years of Women
Just over a century ago, Louise Farnam, Helen May Scoville, and Lillian Nye were the first women to be admitted to the School of Medicine. Their achievements and contributions, along with the many women who have followed since then, were recognized on June 1, 2018 with Celebration and Reflection, a daylong symposium commemorating the 100-year anniversary of women at YSM.
