October 09, 2023

Why did you choose medicine?

The intricacies of medicine drew me toward a career in internal medicine. I find joy in the amalgamation of patients’ clinical presentations and pathophysiology. The field of geriatrics allows for a deeper dive into patient health while keeping a focus on the bigger picture defined by the goals of care and quality of life for the patient.

Why did you choose Yale Department of Internal Medicine for your fellowship?

I was drawn to the Yale Department of Internal Medicine’s geriatrics fellowship program due to its specific curriculum, clinical rotations, and educational offerings that align well with my goals and interests. Yale’s renowned faculty in geriatrics research and the institution’s emphasis on patient-centered care also played a significant role in my decision.

What is a fun fact about you?

Before choosing a career in medicine, I learned computer programming and completed courses in Java as well as C++. To this day, I continue to enjoy tinkering with computers and finding ways to integrate my computer skills into daily tasks at work. My current project involves running and maintaining a home lab server.

What is your five-year goal? 10-year? Overall career goal?

My ideal career trajectory includes inpatient consults as well as managing an outpatient patient panel. I plan to work towards obtaining a medical directorship for a nursing home. In the next five years, I aim to establish myself in these roles, and in 10 years, I aspire to make significant contributions to the field of geriatrics while providing excellent patient care. My overall career goal is to continue improving the quality of life for elderly patients through comprehensive and compassionate medical care.

The Department of Internal Medicine’s Section of Geriatrics strives to improve the health of older adults by providing exceptional patient care, training future leaders and innovators in aging, and engaging in cutting-edge research. To learn more about their mission, visit Geriatrics.
