August 21, 2020

Global Health Night Out (GHNO) is a quarterly event supported by the Office of Global Health Education and coordinated by Associate Professor Tracy Rabin, MD, MS, director, Office of Global Health, Internal Medicine, and Associate Professor Hani Mowafi, MD, MPH, chief, Section of Global Health and International Emergency Medicine. It brings together faculty, trainees, students, and staff from across Yale’s three health professional schools to discuss a relevant global health topic.

Because of COVID-19, this year’s final session on June 1 was held online. The topic was palliative care in global crises, and the wide-ranging discussion including the history and ethical considerations of palliative care in humanitarian crises, including the current coronavirus pandemic. Residents Donald Wright, MD (PGY-1, emergency medicine) and David Vermette, MD, MBA (PGY-4, internal medicine-pediatrics) led the discussion, which Eleanor Reid, MD, MSc, assistant professor of emergency medicine, moderated. Reid specializes in emergency medicine and global health, with a focus on global palliative care.
