Robert S.D. Higgins, M.D. ’85, has been named chair of the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus. Higgins joined Ohio State in July 2010 as director of the Comprehensive Transplant Center and chief of the Division of Cardiac Surgery. He also holds the John H. and Mildred C. Lumley Chair in Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty at Ohio State, Higgins was the Mary and John Bent Professor and chair of the Department of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He served as chair of cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical College of Virginia from 1999 to 2003. Prior to that position, Higgins founded and led a successful lung transplant program at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where he also served as director of pediatric cardiac transplantation at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
