Michael A. Choti, M.D. ’83, M.B.A., has been named chair of surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Choti previously served as the Jacob C. Handelsman Professor of Surgery and chief of the Handelsman Division of Surgical Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University. He joined the Hopkins faculty in 1992. After receiving his medical degree, Choti received his surgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, then completed advanced surgical training in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. His research interests include tumor immunology and experimental therapeutics of hepatic malignancies. His clinical interests include hepatobiliary, colorectal, and other gastrointestinal malignancies.
