Committees at Yale School of Medicine play an important role in recruiting, promoting, and engaging faculty, enhancing education, strengthening our culture, and addressing pressing issues that may arise. We invite our YSM faculty to join, nominate or self-nominate members to serve on these important committees and share valuable insights to support the YSM community.
Yale School of Medicine Standing Advisory Committees
- YSM Executive GroupThe Executive Group meets weekly to foster conversations between Dean Brown and departments on a range of matters that affect YSM and its community. It is comprised of chairs, center directors, and deputy deans.
- Board of Permanent OfficersThis is the governing board of the School, entrusted with matters of educational policy and governance and responsible for recommendations to the President and Provost for appointments at the associate professor, professor, clinical professor, and professor adjunct ranks.
- Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC)The Faculty Advisory Council provides a forum for departmental faculty representatives to discuss and bring new ideas and concerns from a broad range of faculty to the dean’s office.
- Collaborative Excellence Advisory CouncilThe Collaborative Excellence Council’s mission is to work with the Office Collaborative Excellence to advance the three pillars of our mission.
- Yale Medicine Board The Yale Medicine Board is the governing body for the Yale Medicine (YM), the multi-specialty academic group practice of the full time clinical faculty of the Yale School of Medicine.

- Senior Appointments and Promotions CommitteeThe Senior Appointments & Promotions (SAP) Committee reviews appointments and promotions to professor in all ladder tracks and to associate professor with tenure at the Yale School of Medicine (other than those reviewed by TACBS).
- Tenure and Appointment Committee for Biologic SciencesThe Tenure & Appointments Committee of the Biologic Sciences (TACBS) Committee reviews appointments and promotions to tenure for the basic science and bridge departments at the Yale School of Medicine.
- Term Appointment and Promotions CommitteeTerm Appointments & Promotions (TAP) Committee reviews appointments and promotions to associate professor with term in all ladder tracks except the Academic Clinician Track at the Yale School of Medicine.
- Clinical Term Appointments & Promotions (CTAP) Sub-CommitteeClinical Term Appointments & Promotions (CTAP) Sub-Committee is a sub-committee of TAP that reviews appointments and promotions to associate professor with term in the Academic Clinician Track at the Yale School of Medicine and Yale School of Public Health.

- Admissions CommitteeThe mission of the Admissions Committee is to admit a diverse class of outstanding students who show great promise for becoming creative leaders in medicine and science.
- Education Policy and Curriculum Committee (EPCC)The EPCC is responsible for the centralized oversight of the school’s educational policies and curriculum, and for ensuring that the educational program is integrated, coordinated, and designed to achieve the school’s overarching goals.
- MD-PhD Advisory CommitteeThe MD/PhD Program Advisory Committee evaluates program-specific data and outcomes and provides the Director of the MD/PhD Program with advice and recommendations for optimizing the training of physician-scientists.
- Progress CommitteeThe Progress Committee reviews each student for satisfactory academic progress, suitability for continued advancement in the curriculum and for graduation.
