“It’s raining meds!” Sisi Zheng (5th year MD-PhD), belted out to the tune of It’s Raining Men, joined on-stage by fellow students throwing handfuls of big, colorful, marshmallow “pills” to a highly-engaged audience in Mary S. Richard Moscarelli, MD, Lauded as a Champion for Medical Education
“He is kind of a rock star.” This is how Assistant Professor Courtney Fankhanel, MMSc, PA-C, describes Richard Moscarelli, MD, a clinical assistant professor and member of a strong cadre of voluntary faculty in the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences. Moscarelli is a physician with the Greater New Haven OB/GYN practice, who has precepted YSM Physician Associate (PA) students in their OB/GYN rotation for the past decade.
The Human Touch in Teaching
During Capstone, the final course of the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) MD curriculum, students were asked to name the faculty member who had the biggest impact on them. When the results were displayed in a Word Cloud, Joseph DeMayo, MD, MPH, was one of the names appearing in a large font, reflecting that multiple students had chosen him. DeMayo is a retired geriatrician who has taught in the Clinical Skills (CS) and Medical Coach Experience (MCE) courses as volunteer faculty for almost ten years.

These are a small sample of the topics discussed in the MD Class of 2022 Capstone course, which ran from March 14 through April 1, and is a graduation requirement. The variety of subjects in the experiential course reflects its holistic approach, intended as a mix of practical clinical information students should know before starting their residencies, life skills, philosophical discussions about the practice of medicine, and reconnecting students before graduation.

A virtual celebration of poetry, prose, and art, which Yale MD, physician assistant (PA) online, physician associate, nursing, and public health students created, took place on May 5, at the annual Program for Humanities in Medicine (PHM) Health Professions Students' Creative Medical Writing & Art Contest.

Almost 70 undergraduates, postgrads, and advisors to students considering health and science careers visited Yale School of Medicine (YSM) for two days in early April, as part of two YSM pipeline programs that had been virtual since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
