Research Summary
I am a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist, and I study the comparative effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and clinical outcomes associated with cardiac arrhythmias and their treatments, cardiac electrophysiology and exercise physiology. I've had an NIH funded career development award (K23) to study the comparative effectiveness of ablation for atrial fibrillation compared with medical therapy and I am currently the primary investigator (PI) of an R01 grant from the NIH to study the safety and effectiveness of left atrial appendage occlusion for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. I have also received funding from the American Heart Association, and I currently have research funding from the American College of Cardiology.
Specialized Terms: Arrhythmias; atrial fibrillation; atrial flutter; ventricular tachycardia; ventricular fibrillation; implantable cardioverter-defibrillator; cardiac ablation; outcomes research; cost-effectiveness
Extensive Research Description
1) Comparative effectiveness of catheter ablation vs medical therapy for atrial fibrillation
2) Safety and Effectiveness of Left Atrial Appendage Closure in Atrial Fibrillation I and II (SAFELY- AF)
2) Symptoms associated with atrial fibrillation in patients in the Outcomes Registry for Better Informed Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation (ORBIT-AF)
3) Contemporary comparative effectiveness of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators vs medical therapy for decreasing mortality
