Yale President Peter Salovey has formed an advisory committee as the search for a new dean of Yale School of Medicine begins.
Salovey announced in December that Robert Alpern, the Ensign Professor of Medicine and dean of the Yale School of Medicine, had decided to step down from the deanship and pursue his research interests once his successor has been appointed.
Lynn Cooley, dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the C.N.H. Long Professor of Genetics, has agreed to serve as chair of the committee, which will reach out to the university community and advise President Salovey. A full list of the advisory committee members may be found here.
The committee will solicit input from School of Medicine faculty, students, staff, and alumni — as well as members of the wider university community. In his announcement, Salovey invited members of the campus community to write to the committee with recommendations regarding the qualities and qualifications that should be considered in the search for the next dean of the school or to nominate potential candidates.
