The Office of Physician-Scientist and Scientist Development is pleased to announce the creation of the Fund for Physician-Scientist Mentorship. The Fund for Physician-Scientist Mentorship will provide an annual award to honor those who have served as exemplary role models and mentors for physician-scientists at the Yale School of Medicine. Created in 2023 the fund will recognize, honor and promote the activity of mentorship. The fund will honor those mentors who support early career physician-scientists and help to advance their career development. Exceptional mentorship benefits the mentee, the mentor, and the school contributing to the personal and professional development of future leaders in the field of medicine.
The first winner of the prize will be announced in early May, and they will be invited to speak about their experience in mentorship and science at the Janeway Society Retreat. The awardee will receive funds to support the mentorship activities associated with the training and teaching of the next generation of leaders in the field including support for visiting lecturers, career development forums, and mentoring activities.
Nominations are open to all faculty (MD, MD-PhD, DO and PhD) for the Fund for Physician-Scientist Mentorship. The primary review criterion is a history of dedication to the mentoring physician-scientists.
Nominations will be reviewed by a senior faculty panel and will be accepted until April 1st, 2023. The panel will recommend a recipient who has a demonstrated history of excellence in mentoring the career development of physician-scientists. Nominations should be submitted to OPSSD and should include the following:
- A copy of the nominee’s CV
- A 1 page or shorter letter discussing the impactful mentorship activities of the nominee and how this individual is an exemplary role model as a mentor for physician-scientists at the Yale School of Medicine.
