The Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the recruitment of David P. Kuwayama, MD, MPA as Director of Aortic Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, effective June 2023. Dr. Kuwayama will join the Yale faculty via Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he helped to lead development of the complex aortic interventions program. He is distinguished nationally for his expertise in novel and minimally invasive treatment options for aortic aneurysms and dissections.

In his leadership role at Yale, Dr. Kuwayama will partner with faculty and clinical staff across the vascular and cardiac surgery specialties to grow the destination program, overseeing the quality, safety and patient experience of complex, multidisciplinary aortic procedures.

A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Kuwayama completed his residency in General Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Dartmouth. A humanitarian, he has worked extensively with Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders in sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean, and holds a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University. He starts in New Haven on June 1.
