Alan Dardik, MD, PhD Awarded National Institutes of Health Grant

September 16, 2014

Alan Dardik, MD, PhD, Professor of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine, and an international leader in vascular biology research, was recently awarded a $416,250 National Institutes of Health grant titled “Molecular Regulation of Vein Graft Adaptation”.

Dr. Dardik studies venous adaptation to the arterial circulation, such as when surgeons perform vein grafts for leg or cardiac bypass, or arteriovenous fistulae for dialysis access. This work examines the role of Eph-B4 in regulating the response of the vein to the arterial environment in order to improve the durability of surgery, preventing re-do surgery and minimizing complications.

Dr. Dardik’s laboratory is located in Yale’s Amistad building as part of Yale’s Vascular Biology and Therapeutics program.
