Lynn Tanoue, MD, professor of medicine (pulmonary) and director of the Yale Lung Screening and Nodule Program was awarded the 2019 Connecticut Thoracic Society Chapter Outstanding Clinician Award. The annual award, given by the American Thoracic Society, recognizes Tanoue’s clinical excellence, devotion and dedication to patient care. She was nominated by colleague Margaret Pisani, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine (pulmonary).

“Dr. Tanoue is one of the best clinicians that I have ever had the honor to train under and work alongside,” said Pisani. “She is an amazing patient advocate and a wonderful role model for all pulmonary, critical care physicians. In addition, she is an exemplary of what women should aspire to in medicine and leadership.”

Along with her work as a clinician, Tanoue serves as vice chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Fifteen years ago, she established the Yale Cancer Center Thoracic Oncology Program with a grant from YSM and Yale New Haven Hospital. During her time at YSM, Tanoue has received numerous awards including the Leah Lowenstein Award, the Dean’s Mentors Award, the Department of Internal Medicine Faculty Achievement Award for Clinical Care, and the Leffell Prize for Clinical Excellence.

“I had wonderful mentors and role models as a trainee and young faculty person at Yale, and I am grateful for all they taught me. I also appreciate the insight of our current trainees and faculty, as I keep learning from them every day,” Tanoue remarked.
