Thoracic Oncology Program
The Yale Cancer Center Thoracic Oncology Program (TOP) is a multidisciplinary program dedicated to providing cutting edge evaluation and treatment to patient with thoracic malignancies, and to advancing scientific discovery in lung cancer biology and treatment. Patients in TOP receive efficient and coordinated care through all facets of evaluation, staging, and treatment, including access to a wide array of clinical trials.
TOP is a collaborative effort between many specialties – Pulmonary Medicine, Interventional Pulmonary Medicine, Thoracic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Nuclear Medicine – reflecting the complexity of lung cancer care. Typically, an individual patient will need input from many of the specialists in these fields, and so efficient coordination of care is essential. Our program is supported by nurse coordinators, social workers, advanced practice nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
TOP meets weekly in Thoracic Tumor Board, bringing together the collective expertise of our many physician specialists to develop state of the art treatment plans for every patient. We are committed to optimizing the care for each individual patient, as well as to advancing scientific discoveries that will improve lung cancer outcomes for all patients.
