  • 00:00Cancer survivor is anyone who's
  • 00:03been diagnosed with cancer starting
  • 00:05the day of diagnosis and spanning
  • 00:08throughout the individual's life.
  • 00:15Cancer survivors are our
  • 00:17patients. Are patients
  • 00:18with a history of cancer and just
  • 00:21as we support them through that
  • 00:23diagnostic work up and then of
  • 00:25course through the treatment,
  • 00:27so do we need to support them as
  • 00:30they finish treatment and enter
  • 00:32into the surveillance period?
  • 00:35This is a time of high uncertainty.
  • 00:37Every ache and pain could mean
  • 00:39recurrence and then a time where
  • 00:41side effects still linger.
  • 00:43It's our responsibility and our
  • 00:45duty to take care of these patients,
  • 00:47especially the ones who have a high
  • 00:50burden of needs and and side effects.
  • 00:57At Yale Cancer Center in

  • 01:53an integrative medicine physician.
  • 02:01Survivorship includes the caregivers as well.
  • 02:05UM, the oftentimes the entire
  • 02:07support network sort of feels the
  • 02:10impact of a patient's diagnosis,
  • 02:12and it is very important to
  • 02:14understand what the caregiver
  • 02:16feels drained this period as well.
  • 02:18We have a caregiver support group
  • 02:20that allows caregivers to come
  • 02:22together and share experiences.
  • 02:24We invite patients to bring with them
  • 02:27a loved one who either lives in the
  • 02:30household or is a very supportive
  • 02:32person because we believe that real.
  • 02:35Change after cancer happens
  • 02:37when everyone is on board.
