“It’s raining meds!” Sisi Zheng (5th year MD-PhD), belted out to the tune of It’s Raining Men, joined on-stage by fellow students throwing handfuls of big, colorful, marshmallow “pills” to a highly-engaged audience in Mary S. Harkness Auditorium. This was one of many highlights of the Yale School of Medicine Class of 2023’s Fourth Year Show: Eli Yale and the Residents of the (Morning) Rounds Table.

Richard Moscarelli, MD, Lauded as a Champion for Medical Education
“He is kind of a rock star.” This is how Assistant Professor Courtney Fankhanel, MMSc, PA-C, describes Richard Moscarelli, MD, a clinical assistant professor and member of a strong cadre of voluntary faculty in the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences. Moscarelli is a physician with the Greater New Haven OB/GYN practice, who has precepted YSM Physician Associate (PA) students in their OB/GYN rotation for the past decade.
The Human Touch in Teaching
During Capstone, the final course of the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) MD curriculum, students were asked to name the faculty member who had the biggest impact on them. When the results were displayed in a Word Cloud, Joseph DeMayo, MD, MPH, was one of the names appearing in a large font, reflecting that multiple students had chosen him. DeMayo is a retired geriatrician who has taught in the Clinical Skills (CS) and Medical Coach Experience (MCE) courses as volunteer faculty for almost ten years.
Caldwell, Flores Honored by AAAP, NIDA
Ebony Caldwell, MD MPH, an addiction psychiatry fellow at Yale School of Medicine, has been named a recipient of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP)/National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Mentor Facilitated Training Award in Substance Use Disorders Science Dissemination Solicitation. Also honored is Jose Flores, MD, PhD, an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship program graduate from Yale School of Medicine and the Yale Psychiatry Residency Program.

Physician Associate Class of 2024 Receives White Coats and Advice
“You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” Jara Chen, MMSc ’07, PA-C, shared this quote from Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go, in her keynote address at the White Coat Ceremony for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Physician Associate (PA) Program Class of 2024. On August 26, close to 140 family members, friends, and alumni joined the ceremony virtually.
