Biography

As far as I can remember I have always been fascinated by science and especially by the human brain and mind. In fact, mental states are the result of countless converging interactions between genes, brain structures, and biological and environmental cues. Therefore, I believe that a multi-disciplinary approach should be undertaken when coming to investigate this magnificent mechanism. As a biomedical engineer and a psychiatrist, I strive to integrate my knowledge and skills in both the medical and scientific arenas in order to promote research of severe mood disorders and suicide prevention. Currently, I work as post-doctoral associate at the Yale Mood Disorders Research Program, under Professor Hilary Blumberg. My research focuses on severe mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder and major depression, studying their effect on brain structure and function using state-of-the-art technologies such as advanced magnetic resonance imaging, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (FNIRS) and genetic and stem cell technologies.
