Research Summary

I am interested in better understanding inflammatory skin diseases, including sarcoidosis, granuloma annulare, lichen planus, erythema multiforme, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, severe medication reactions, and others. My laboratory uses the latest basic and translational approaches, such as single cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, to dissect the molecular immunologic mechanisms that give rise to these disorders. We integrate clinical, histopathologic, and molecular features of diseases and aim to better understand different immunologic reaction patterns in the skin and ultimately identify and evaluate novel treatment approaches. Much of our work involves human translational immunology through clinical trials. We have identified the utility of Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors in treating recalcitrant inflammatory disorders including sarcoidosis, granuloma annulare, and lichen planus.
