Overview
Taking the time to explain medical conditions to patients is a key part of his job as an obstetrician-gynecologist, says Ravi Kaza, MD.
“Simply saying, ‘This is why I am recommending this,’ helps with gaining trust,” says Dr. Kaza, who is a laborist.
“I enjoy collaborating with midwives. We work hand in hand. I become involved in the deliveries if there are complications to manage, such as a C-section,” Dr. Kaza explains. “We are all part of a team, which also includes anesthesiologists and nurses.”
The model of care, Dr. Kaza says, is one of group decisions. “We all have a shared goal of taking care of the patient, and we all help make the decisions,” he says. “A lot of medicine is hierarchical and that is antiquated, and I find the way we work together refreshing.”
