Biography

Patty joined the full-time faculty as Deputy Director of Student Affairs for the Yale School of Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) Online Program in the fall of 2023. As an alumna of the Yale Physician Associate Program, she is thrilled to return to her home institution and become integrally involved in teaching and supporting PA students as they become clinicians and future leaders in healthcare.

Patty’s career as a Physician Assistant began in the Emergency Department (ED) at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was one of the first PAs selected to work in the Acute section of the ED, where she fell in love with the fast-pace and opportunity to perform procedures. Patty then moved to Chicago and joined a very busy Trauma team in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern. She has been practicing in Ortho for the past 10+ years, working in both the operating room and ambulatory settings, and she continues to work clinically.

During her time at Northwestern, Patty served as the Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Orthopaedics and had additional hospital-wide leadership roles including PA Co-Chair of the APP Leadership Committee on the Academic Medical Campus and Co-Chair of the APP Education and Events Committee. She was awarded MVP in Orthopaedics and was nominated for both the PA Excellence Award and Northwestern University’s PA Preceptor of the Year multiple times. She was selected as PA of the Year in 2023 by the Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants.

Despite loving clinical practice, Patty’s heart has always been in education. Her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame is in Science Education, and she has found ways to teach at every opportunity. In the hospital, she developed a monthly APP Rounds in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and has presented in multiple forums including the Annual Northwestern Medicine (NM) APP Conference and Northwestern’s APP Grand Rounds. She has served as a preceptor for Northwestern University’s PA Students as well as NM’s Pre-PA Interns. She has also been engaged with Northwestern University’s PA Program as an Invited lecturer, Skills Lab Facilitator, Bioethics Discussion Group Leader, Student Mentor, and Boards Review Lecturer. Patty believes patient education is the foundation of effective patient care, and she hopes to share this passion with her students.
