Dr. Tuan's underlying interests in Infectious Diseases focus on HIV/AIDS, global health, and tropical medicine. She completed her Bachelor of Science and Master's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and Yale University, respectively. She graduated from Chicago Medical School. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at University of Connecticut School of Medicine and her Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.
She is an Instructor of Medicine in Infectious Diseases at Yale School of Medicine. She will be a core faculty member of the Donaldson service at Yale New Haven Hospital in the upcoming term. She is a Principal Investigator for the following Yale School of Medicine research studies: 1) Evaluating Pitavastatin to Reduce Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in HIV-Infected Adults (REPRIEVE) (NIH/ACTG-funded clinical trial), 2) Pfizer mRNA Influenza vaccine clinical trial, 3) ACTG AIDS Clinical Trial Group STOMP Study: Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blinded Trial of the Safety & Efficacy of Tecovirimat for Treatment of Human Monkeypox Virus Disease (Co-PI); 4) Qualitative Assessment of SARS-CoV-2 Immunogenicity (QUASI) after COVID-19 vaccination in People Living with HIV, 5) Real-World Utilization of Sotrovimab for COVID-19.
She is a Sub-Investigator for the Yale Pfizer/BioNTech (adult, pediatric, booster) & Sanofi COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials. She is a Sub-Investigator for Yale School of Medicine HIV clinical trials: 1) Evaluating the Safety & Efficacy of Bictegravir/Lenacapavir vs. Stable Baseline Regimen in Virologically Suppressed People With HIV-1 on Stable Complex Treatment Regimens, 2) Evaluating Efficacy, Safety, Tolerability of Switching to Long-acting Cabotegravir + Rilpivirine (from BIC/FTC/TAF) in Adults with HIV-1. Her other research study is Assessing Attitudes & Readiness for HIV PrEP among Adolescents & Young Women in Liberia, which she has conducted in collaboration with physicians at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.
She was awarded the Yale Institute for Global Health Leadership in Global Health Fellowship as a World Bank COVID-19 Vaccine & Primary Health Care Fellow. She was a Yale Johnson & Johnson Global Health Scholar in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (2022), Kigali, Rwanda (2019) and Butare, Rwanda (2017). She is a violinist in the Yale Medical Symphony Orchestra.
