Biography

Efia James attended Howard University where she earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics as well as her medical degree. Her interest in the health of underserved populations led her to complete her residency in the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Program. After residency, she attended The George Washington University earning a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. During graduate school, she worked with the local health department and community organizations developing health programs for underserved populations. She went on to work for the State of Maryland Disability Determination Services, and the Veterans Health Administration Compensation and Pension Program helping injured workers and veterans obtain disability benefits. She recently completed her fellowship in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Yale. Her interests include disability management, environmental epidemiology, and employee wellness. Dr. James is also an Occupational Health Services physician in the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Healthcare System. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her large family, crocheting, and traveling.
