Clinical Care

Overview

Brian C. Cambi, MD, is a Yale Medicine cardiologist who serves as medical director of the Yale New Haven Hospital Heart and Vascular Center in the New London, Westerly, and Norwich areas, and director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Lawrence+Memorial Hospital in New London.

Dr. Cambi launched the interventional cardiology program in New London in 2008 to provide emergency angioplasty and stenting for heart attack victims, and the program later expanded to provide stent procedures in both emergency and elective situations, as well as advanced procedures for peripheral vascular disease, heart failure, and heart rhythm disorders. Many of the highly specialized procedures Dr. Cambi has introduced in the region weren’t available there before and patients had to travel to get the care they needed. “This has been extremely rewarding and something I take great pride in,” he says.

As a clinician, Dr. Cambi is trained in general cardiology, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography. He has advanced training in interventional cardiology specializing in treatment of coronary artery disease.

“The most important and rewarding aspect of my job, however, remains centered around the patients,” Dr. Cambi says. “ I love to explain complex cardiovascular conditions in terms patients can understand. The bond created with my patients during a lifesaving stent procedure or guiding them through medical treatments that can restore quality of life is one of the most gratifying aspects of my professional and personal life. The opportunity to do so is a privilege not many have, and I consider myself extremely fortunate.”
