Alyssa Crippen

Dr. Crippen is a Research Associate in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Yale School of Public Health. She uses computational modeling methods to investigate the impact of tobacco regulation policies on product use and long term health outcomes. She is a junior investigator with NCI funded consortiums, Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET) and the Center for the Assessment of Tobacco Regulations (CAsToR).

Before coming to Yale, Dr. Crippen was at the University of Edinburgh completing a doctoral degree in the department of Geology and Geophysics. Her dissertation, entitled 'Wave-based Monitoring and Forecasting of Structural Damage in Geological Composites", investigated the use ultrasonic monitoring techniques to forecast brittle failure events in a geologic setting (seismic and volcanic activity) as well as a civil engineering setting (rebar corrosion in concrete structures). Her research was part of a competitive Marie-Curie Actions Innovative Training Network (ITN) spanning across Europe and the United States, which focused on the interdisciplinary study of waves. Through this consortium, Dr. Crippen completed a research placement at the German Federal Institute for Materials Testing (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung) in Berlin as well as intensive training placements at ETH Zurich, Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Sorbonne), TU Delft, and Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Marseille.
