Biography

Katrina joined the ADAPTING Lab as a Research Assistant in August 2016 after completing three years of work as a Research Assistant at Syracuse University (SU) and one year of work as a Research Coordinator at the University of Connecticut. Currently, she also works as a behavior therapist by aiding the implementation of behavior support plans for youth on the autism spectrum. Her other non-research experience includes a clinical internship at a psychiatric hospital and one year of volunteer work for the young nonprofit NoStigmas, a grassroots organization founded to empower a mental health community through education, support and action. Inspired by her clinical and community work, Katrina led her SU Honors thesis as a subject-pool study exploring correlates and determinants of cognitive bias with emphasis on that towards mentally ill people. She aspires to work as a clinician scientist in the area of psychosis research with hope that empirical science will continue to inform the development of new psychiatric medications and evidence-based clinical interventions that can empower care providers and optimize patients' quality of life and ability to self-advocate. Katrina is also active in spoken word poetry, is an amateur yogi, and lover of the outdoors, dogs, and live music.
