"Health Research at the Epicenter of the HIV Epidemic: The Africa Health Research Institute in ZwaZulu-Natal"

Led by Deenan Pillay, PhD, director of the institute.

Deenan Pillay, PhD, is director of the Africa Health Research Institute in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and also professor of Virology at University College London. He developed the UK national reference laboratory for antiviral susceptibility testing in Birmingham before moving to University College London, where his research has focused in HIV therapy, drug resistance, and transmission dynamics.

He became executive director of the newly formed Africa Health Research Institute in 2016.
