YMA Moves Will Free Up Additional Research and Clinical Space

September 19, 2019

Approximately 500 Yale Medicine Administration employees are on track to move to new homes at 2 Science Park (2SP) and 100 Church Street South (100 CSS) in December and January.

In addition to bringing YMA employees together in engaging new workspaces, these moves will free up much-needed space for Yale School of Medicine and Yale Medicine to grow their clinical and research missions, which are top strategic priorities. YMA will vacate the sixth floor of 300 George St., which will then be used for research, and YMA staff will also leave West Campus, freeing up space that could be used for clinical programs.

All together, approximately 420 YMA employees who currently work at 300 George St., 100 Church Street South and West Campus will move to the three-story building at 2 Science Park. About 80 staff members who need to be in close proximity to the medical campus will move from 300 George St. to Suite B100 on the first floor of 100 Church Street South. YMA staff who work in clinical areas will continue to work at those sites.

These moves will place most of YMA in Science Park, a location that is strategically important to Yale University as a hub for innovation and growth and an increasingly vibrant community. In addition to the new space at 2 Science Park, Yale Medicine also has a growing presence at 25 Science Park, home of the YM CARE Center.

There are a number of strategic reasons for this significant long-term space plan for YMA:

  • Administrative functions are being moved from the medical school campus to the university campus, allowing incremental space to be utilized for clinical care or research.
  • The move to Science Park will bring YMA staff together as a department and create a greater sense of teamwork. Employees who currently work in different locations will not only be in the same building, but will be situated with their key YMA partners in order to maximize communication, collaboration, and synergy.
  • YMA has been able to custom-design its new homes, resulting in spaces that are more contemporary, more flexible, and will create a more professional environment.
  • YMA staff will be in University-owned buildings rather than leased facilities, which will provide a stable, long-term home for YMA and allow it to grow over time.
