The Yale Physicians Building Art Place will launch a fourth exhibit featuring the work of famed Italian sculptor Bruno Lucchesi and 12 other artists on Thursday, September 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 800 Howard Avenue.
The exhibit will feature opening remarks from Yale School of Medicine Dean David Kessler, M.D., followed by a wine tasting sponsored by Mid-State Imports and Distributors and food catered by Alchemy.
Born on a farm near Pisa, Italy, Lucchesi studied in a monastery and at the Art Institute of Luzza, where he began to make classical figures in clay and ceramics. He is on the faculty of the Art Academy of Florence, the New School for Social Research and the National Academy of Design. His methods of sculpture in clay are published in three books: "Terracotta," "Modeling the Head in Clay," and "Modeling the Figure in Clay." Many of his sculptures are in private collections and some are photographed in the book, "Bruno Lucchesi: Sculptor of the Human Spirit." His life-size and larger sculptures are displayed in museums and sculpture parks around the world.

Ghassan Abou-Alfa, postdoctoral fellow in internal medicine and medical oncology, will display photographs of desert scenes throughout the world
Yasmin Bokhari, will display her paintings of flowers and landscapes
Terry Cuticelli, Department of Plastic Surgery, will display her recent works in basketweaving
Francoise N. Hamlin, a Ph.D. candidate in African American and American studies, will display her quilts
Martha Highsmith, deputy secretary of Yale, will display her quilts, which feature a technique called watercolor, where the arrangement of small squares forms the design of the quilt
Daphne Murray, will display her paintings
Marlene Nankin, coordinator of the Yale-New Haven Hospital Phototherapy Center in the Department of Dermatology, will display highly detailed photographs of nature scenes
Bach Nguyen, will display several lacquer pieces
Liane Philpotts, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, will display oil paintings of still life arrangements
Joy Sherman, assistant business manager of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, will display color photographs
Wayne O. Southwick, M.D., professor emeritus, former chief of orthopaedic surgery at Yale and a student of Bruno Lucchesi, will display a sculpture called "giovanni donna seduta" (young girl sitting).
Lynn Wassum, instructor for ITS education, will display black and white and color photographs in an exhibit titled "Capturing Our Evolving Earth"
Heather Andrew Williams, a Ph.D. candidate in the American Studies program, will display quilts
