Upcoming Events: 2nd Look, 4th Year Show, Student Research Day, and Commencement

March 22, 2022

Second Look: Through April 13

The MD Admissions team has a new format for Second Look this year. Rather than being condensed into one weekend, Second Look is spread across a series of online evening events from March 7 through April 13. Prospective students can join these online sessions to learn about topics such as the Yale System and Curriculum, DEI, Innovation, and Global Health Opportunities. There also are evenings for admitted students to engage with student affinity groups. All-day Virtual Second Look events are scheduled for March 30 for admitted MD-PhD students and March 31 and April 1 for admitted MD and MD-PhD students.

Over 120 admitted students have registered for an all-day, in-person Second Look event on Saturday, April 26, where they will go on tours, meet current students, and have conversations with Dean Nancy J. Brown, MD, Deputy Dean Darin Latimore, MD, and Associate Dean for Student Affairs John Francis, MD, PhD. If you are on campus that day, please welcome any admitted students you may meet.

4th Year Show: Friday, April 1 & Saturday, April 2 (7:00 – 9:00 pm)

The Yale School of Medicine Class of 2022 Presents the Fourth Year Show or "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Yale System"

After a hiatus of two years, the Class of 2022 is resurrecting the Fourth Year Show (formerly the Second Year Show), an annual tradition that parodies the school, faculty, and the graduating class.

Come watch on Friday, April 1, or Saturday, April 2: 7:00 – 9:00 pm (doors open at 6:45 pm). Per YSM policy, you must be vaccinated to attend.

Tickets are $25 (General admission); $40 (VIP: Front Row); or $50 (V-VIP: Very Front Row). All tickets include two drinks. Please note: The show contains language that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Commencement (Physician Assistant Online Program): Friday, May 6 (9:30 am)

While the first Physician Assistant Online Program class graduated in 2020, COVID-19 restrictions prevented the program from having a campus ceremony in 2020 or 2021. On May 6, the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 will gather in Yale’s Woolsey Hall for the program’s first graduation ceremony.

Student Research Day: Tuesday, May 10

Student Research Day, which will be virtual, will showcase over 100 student research poster presentations, graduating student panel discussions, and prize-winning research presentations throughout the day. In addition to the discussions by and with the student researchers, the day will include remarks from Dean Nancy Brown, MD, Lee Goldman, MD ’73, MPH, and Farr Lecturer, Rexford S. Ahima, MD, PhD, director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Diabetes in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing at Johns Hopkins University. The student-nominated recipient of the second annual Dr. John N. Forrest, Jr. Mentorship Award for outstanding mentor in research will be announced.

Stay tuned for details on how to register for this important annual celebration of student research and faculty mentorship.

Commencement (MD Program): Monday, May 23 (10:30 am)

After a University-wide ceremony on Yale’s Old Campus at 10:30 am, the MD Class of 2022 will hold their Commencement ceremony in Amistad Park. William Flanary, MD, (well known as Dr. Glaucomflecken) is the Commencement speaker. More details will be forthcoming.
