A Day in the Life of a Med Student

Where did you grow up and where were you living immediately prior to medical school?

I grew up in Tarkwa Ghana. Prior to medical school, I was living in Cambridge, United Kingdom where I completed my PhD as a Gates-Cambridge Scholar.

Why did you choose Yale School of Medicine?

The Yale System. I had previously completed my MPH at Yale and made some wonderful friends here, so I was well-aware of the flexibility that YSM gives its students to curate their own paths as physicians. My med school interviews at Yale and other places sealed the decision.

Can you briefly describe your schedule on a typical weekday?

6 - 7:30 a.m.: Revise previous day’s work. Prepare and head to class.

8 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Classes (I watch corresponding materials even when I skip class)

3 - 3:30 p.m.: Catch up with classmates

3:30 - 5:30 p.m.: Studying

5:30 - 6 p.m.: Dinner break

6 - 8 p.m.: More studying

8 - 9 p.m.: Emails, startup work obligations (if any)

9 - 10 p.m.: Gym, relax

10:30 p.m.: Bedtime

Not always perfect, but I try my hardest to stick to it.

What neighborhood do you live in?

Wooster Square

What is your favorite thing to do in/near New Haven?

Biking around town when the weather isn’t too bad.

Do you have any final thoughts or advice for prospective students?

Work hard. Pray hard. Be a good human. Everything will fall in place in due time.
