Screening and Panel Discussion: "Below the Belt"—Exposing the Crisis of Endometriosis Care

April 11, 2024

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences is hosting a special screening of the documentary Below the Belt, directed and produced by Shannon Cohn. It follows the challenges of patients with endometriosis and exposes the widespread health disparities faced by women.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Sterling Hall of Medicine (333 Cedar St.), L Room 115. A light dinner will be provided.

Before the screening, former U.S. Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will provide a pre-recorded video introduction. Following the documentary, a panel of Ob/Gyn faculty, director/producer Shannon Cohn, and guests from around Connecticut will speak about their personal experiences with endometriosis.

This screening and discussion will be an enlightening event for anyone who wants to better understand how societal taboos, gender bias, misinformation, and barriers to care can harm millions within our health system. It will also explore the ways in which we can improve health care for everyone.
