Psychiatry residency alumnus begins tenure as president-elect of the American Psychoanalytic Association

Harriet Wolfe, M.D. was elected by the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) membership to serve as president-elect from June 2014 until June 2016, at which time she will become the 67th president of APsaA until June 2018.

Dr. Wolfe completed her residency in psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine (1975-1979) where she also held a faculty appointment from 1979-1985. She received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and has also served on the psychiatry faculty at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.

She is a training and supervising analyst at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (SFCP). She was president of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute and Society from 2000-2003 and, after aiding its reorganization into a Center, was chair of the SFCP Board of Trustees from 2011-2013.

Dr. Wolfe has a long history of service to APsaA. She served on the organization's Executive Council and on several task forces and recently chaired the APsaA's Committee on Psychoanalytic Education.

The American Psychoanalytic Association is a professional organization of psychoanalysts with approximately 3,300 members. The Association is comprised of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, educators, researchers and students who have an interest in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic therapy.
