On Friday, March 16th, medical students from as near as Yale and as far as South Africa learned they had matched to Yale's psychiatry residency program.
"We are very pleased with this year's match results," said Robert Rohrbaugh, MD, professor of psychiatry, deputy chair for education and career development, and residency program director. "The residency class of 2016 is an incredibly talented and diverse group of individuals who have already demonstrated success in learning medicine, patient care, and research."
John H. Krystal, MD, Robert L. McNeil, Jr. Professor of Translational Research and chair of Yale's psychiatry department also celebrated the results, "By all measures, this is another stellar class of trainees, among the most talented applicants in the match. I am pleased to welcome them to Yale and congratulate all of the medical students who are going on to the next phase of their careers."
Eight of the twelve incoming residents have advanced degrees and 40% are women and underrepresented minorities.
Yale's newest psychiatry residents, listed below, will report to the program in June.
In total, six Yale medical students matched in psychiatry, besting the national average by 50%. Roughly four percent of U.S. medical students will go on to a psychiatry residency this year.
