Project ASSERT in April celebrated 15 years of helping patients who are struggling with alcohol and other substance abuse get the treatment they need. The program has screened nearly 46,000 people since its inception, including 1,619 in 2014. Health promotion advocates (HPAs) with the Emergency Departments at both YNHH campuses last year directly referred 45 percent of patients to specialized treatment centers. Follow up showed that 72 percent had successfully enrolled in a treatment program.
