November 16, 2023

Lucila Ohno-Machado, MD, MBA, PhD, is one of three senior Fellows who were named Distinguished Fellows of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) on November 12 at a ceremonial dinner during the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 2023 Annual Symposium in New Orleans. Ohno-Machado is currently Waldemar von Zedtwitz Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Informatics and Data Science at Yale School of Medicine, Chair of the new Section of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, and Deputy Dean for Biomedical Informatics. She was first inducted as an elected Fellow of ACMI in 2002.

ACMI Fellows are elected annually in recognition of "significant and sustained contributions to the field of medical informatics", while the distinction of Distinguished Fellow is reserved for those who have additionally made significant contributions to ACMI through policy, practice, research and service. Only 16 other Fellows have received this distinction since the program's commencement in 2020.

“The FACMI designation is one of distinction and pride," said ACMI President Kevin B. Johnson. "They represent excellence from academia, government and industry and are the best and brightest stars in our field demonstrating thought leadership, stellar experience and established scholarship. Together their important contributions to biomedicine and healthcare inform, educate and inspire the informatics community to improve human health."

ACMI was incorporated in 1984.
