Mark B. Faries, MD joins Yale Cancer Center

New Haven, Conn. — Thomas Lynch, Jr., MD, Director of Yale Cancer Center, and Robert Udelsman, MD, MBA, Chairman of the Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery, have announced the appointment of Mark Faries, MD, FACS, as Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Faries specializes in the surgical treatment of melanoma and will be an integral member of the Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital Melanoma Program.

“Mark’s clinical and research expertise in melanoma will benefit our patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital. He brings extensive experience in tumor immunology and melanoma metastases, adding to the strength of the translational research in melanoma currently underway at Yale Cancer Center,” Dr. Lynch said.

Dr. Faries will split his time between patient care and research through the Yale Cancer Center Immunology Research Program. Before joining Yale Cancer Center, he was an Associate Member of the John Wayne Cancer Institute and Director of their Translational Tumor Immunology Lab.

“A skilled surgeon and clinical trial investigator, Dr. Faries will be a wonderful addition to the surgical oncology team at Smilow Cancer Hospital. We look forward to welcoming him our Melanoma Program on September 1st,” Dr. Udelsman said.

A graduate of Haverford College, Dr. Faries received his medical degree from the Cornell University Medical College. He completed his internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
