Launching the Yale Medicine brand

October 19, 2016

Over the past six weeks, you've probably started to notice our new brand all around you—in new signage, on business cards, even in email signatures.

It’s official: Yale Medical Group is now Yale Medicine.

The new brand launched on Aug. 31—but it goes much deeper than just a name change.

"Our practice is not just changing its name to Yale Medicine," said Dr. Paul Taheri, CEO of Yale Medicine. "We are changing the way we work. With our firm roots in research and education, we're focusing on achieving ever greater heights in patient care."

Rebranding enables our organization to unify under a common name and purpose, provide a better patient experience, improve practice standards, take a more proactive approach in promoting clinical care, streamline our communications with patients and partners, and clarify our relationship with Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health. Our new brand also supports our growth, new service lines, name recognition and the reputation of the clinical practice.

We are changing the way we work. With our firm roots in research and education, we're focusing on achieving ever greater heights in patient care.

You'll find everything you need to keep up with the rebranding at Inside Yale Medicine, an online resource for information for now and into the future. There you'll find a rebrand checklist, brand guidelines, FAQs, a portal for ordering business cards and templates for everything from mailing labels to event flyers.

You will also find links to the internal Brand Learning Program, which is designed to orient all faculty and staff to the Yale Medicine brand. To date, about 65 percent of Yale Medicine employees have signed in to the Brand Learning Program. If you have not completed this eLearning program, please do so; in order for our new brand to be successful, each of us has to understand what it is and why it's important.

As you may know, the launch of the new Yale Medicine website has been delayed while our Yale School of Medicine communications team works on technical aspects of the website that our branding agency was not able to complete before closing its doors in late August. Our team is assessing what work remains to be done and developing a plan to move quickly toward completion. Virtually all of the unfinished work is IT-related. The text and video content created by the branding agency is complete and will be used as planned once the site launches.

This is an exciting time for Yale Medicine, as the new brand supports the efforts of all faculty and staff to further our mission: We deliver exceptional medical care in a nurturing environment to each of our patients, every day.
