Kudos to the following members of the Department of Internal Medicine for their recent achievements...

Debra Brandt, DO, has been selected as one of 12 oncologists nationwide to participate in the 2020-2021 ASCO Education Scholars Program.

Leigh Goedeke, PhD, received a K99 "Pathway to Independence Award" for her project, "Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Diabetic Atherosclerosis."

Former Digestive Diseases fellow Adelina Hung, MD, welcomed a baby girl, Laila, in early January.

Scott Huntington, MD, MPH, MSc, has been appointed as the new Medical Director for the Hematology Outpatient Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital on NP7.

Shute Ishibe, MD, was elected to The American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Kanika Jain, PhD, won the Larry Oberley Young Investigator Award at the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine 26th Annual Conference. Jain also presented “Platelet hyperactivity in advanced age is governed by the novel adaptive changes in intraplatelet antioxidant” at the event.

Michael Kozal, MD, won the VISN 1 Network Director’s ICARE Award for exceptional demonstration of ICARE values and leadership excellence of the VISN 1 Specialty Medicine Service Line from 2017-2019.

Xavier Llor, MD, PhD, has been appointed as Associate CEHE Director for Cancer Screening. In this new position, Llor will systemize risk stratification processes to ensure consistency throughout Smilow Cancer Hospital and its Care Center delivery network, and he will direct screening services across the health system and in the community settings.

Sarah Mougalian, MD, has been appointed the inaugural Deputy Chief Ambulatory Officer of Smilow Cancer Hospital. Mougalian will provide leadership and contribute to the optimal management of clinic and infusion center operations within Smilow Cancer Hospital in this new role.

Terri Parker, MD, has been appointed the inaugural Assistant Medical Director for Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in North Haven.

Tara Sanft, MD, has been appointed the inaugural Chief Patient Experience Officer for Smilow Cancer Hospital. In this new role, Sanft will work closely with the Chief Medical Experience Officer for YNHHS and Yale Medicine, and the Chief Experience Officer for YNHHS and Yale Medicine, to continue to build on exceptional patient- and family-centered environment at Smilow Cancer Hospital.

Gerald Shulman, MD, PhD, was recently appointed to the Cancer Signaling Networks Research Program.

Andrea Silber, MD, has been named Associate CEHE Director for Clinical Research. Silber will continue to expand clinical trial participation across the region and build a dedicated team of community-based patient navigators.
