May 24, 2019

Aarti Gupta, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, and Rajesh Tampi, MD, DFAPA, MS, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, are co-editors of the new book, "Psychiatric Ethics in Late-Life Patients."

Published by Springer International Publishing, the book offers a comprehensive view of ethical, medicolegal, and forensic issues common to aging psychiatric patients. Written by experts in the field, the book includes assessments of each patient's capacity to make decisions, live independently, manage finances, drive a vehicle, have sexual relations, and an array of other topics in the context of ethics and the law.

The text also discusses guardianship and care for patients who are no longer fit to handle their own care and the ethical dilemmas associated with these challenges. There is also text covering aging adults in the criminal justice system from an epidemiological perspective, a problem that is steadily increasing in many nations, including the United States.

Gupta and Tampi have affiliations on the clinical faculty in the Yale Department of Psychiatry. Tampi is also Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Cleveland Clinic Akron General in Akron, Ohio., and a Professor of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
