Announcements

  • Congratulations to Sam Choi (YPC/GHEDP ’21) on receiving the Raymond P. Wong Award at Medical Grand Rounds on November 11th! This award honors the legacy of Raymond P. Wong, MD, an extremely dedicated primary care physician here in New Haven, and a prominent contributor to the education of students and house staff at YNHH. This award is given to a graduating member or a recent graduate of the internal medicine, primary care, or medicine/pediatric residencies at Yale New Haven Hospital who accepts a practice position in an urban care setting in New Haven, preferably, but not exclusively, at the Cornell Scott Hill Health Center, for at least three years. Read more about the award (and Sam’s work) here: https://medicine.yale.edu/news-article/choi-is-recipient-of-wong-award-for-2021-2023/
  • Recognizing Native American Heritage Month and the Impact of COVID-19 on Native Communities: In honor of Native American Heritage Month, Mati Hlatshwayo Davis, MD, MPH, leads a panel discussion with Luke John Day, MD, Sophie Neuner, MD, MPH, and Jessica Snowden, MD, FIDSA. The group discusses the importance of visibility of native people, historic and modern reasons for mistrust of the health care system, strategies for providing culturally inclusive care and the impact COVID-19 has had on native communities. Listen on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or Spotify.
  • Announcing the CUGH Reflections in Global Health Essay Contest (deadline November 29th). Reflection is a powerful tool in global health education and practice. All current undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate trainees as well as GH practitioners are invited to submit essays to reflect upon the meaning and lessons learned from global health experiences. These may be in a research, educational, clinical, or service capacity. The impacts of these experiences on professional development and personal growth are revealed in new partnerships, insights into cross-cultural or ethical issues and ideas for change. For more information, visit: https://www.cugh2022.org/reflectionessays
  • The application platform is now open for the Department of Internal Medicine’s Cross-Distinction Resident Academic Fund! Through this fund, residents will have the opportunity to apply for awards of up to $500 per year. This money is intended to cover costs associated with presenting your Distinction Pathway-related work at a local, regional, national, or international conference, or other academic activities related to your participation in the Distinction Pathway. All Distinction Pathway residents are encouraged to apply, however, preference will be given to PGY-3s and PGY-4s, as well as (in the future) residents who have not previously received an award from this fund. For more details, please see the November 1st email from Brett Marks. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis - https://yalesurvey.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7NEkKKQS5XWEWF0
