We are excited to announce that Dr. Mathieu Bakhoum will be receiving an award for an R21 grant from the NEI for a project on pterygium progression. The focus of this project is to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying pterygium formation and progression, with a focus on the role of chronic ultraviolet exposure in inducing inflammation and cellular transformation. The goal is to identify potential targets for pharmacologic intervention.
