The Psychiatry Department is pleased to announce that Marshal Mandelkern, MD, PhD will become the new Director of the Long Term Care Clinic (LTCC) effective July 2011.

LTCC, a psychotherapy training clinic operated by the Yale Department of Psychiatry and Yale-New Haven Hospital, is a vital training site that provides an exceptional clinical experience to more than sixty trainees each year.

The current Director of LTCC, Dr. Stanley Possick, will remain in the position until July 2011 and will stay on with the clinic through July 2012 to ensure a smooth transition.

Dr. Robert Rohrbaugh, Deputy Chair for Education and Career Development, noted, "Dr. Possick has been an exceptional Director of the LTCC, bringing his thoughtful approach to the selection of patients, supervisory pairings, and faculty development. I’m delighted that Dr. Mandelkern has accepted this invitation to become the next Director of LTCC. I know the Department joins me in thanking Dr. Possick for his devoted service to our Department’s training program and in welcoming Dr. Mandelkern to his new position."

Dr. Mandelkern’s credentials for this position include both an MD and a PhD from Yale and graduating from both our residency and from the Western New England Psychoanalytic Institute. In addition to his private practice Marshall has been an active member of the medical staff at the Hospital of St. Raphael (HSR) and was appointed Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at HSR in 2009. He has been an active supervisor in the LTCC for 15 years and organizes and teaches in the very popular Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course for third-year post-graduate residents.
